Scientific Name : Threskiornis spinicollis
Common Name : Straw-necked ibis
Description : A long-legged wading bird to 700mm, with a long down-curved bill. The bill and head are black, the head being bare of feathers. The back, wings and tail are glossy black, with a metallic sheen. The underparts and neck are white. In breeding plumage there are yellow straw-like plumes on the breast and front of the neck. The legs are blackish.
Habitat : Wetlands, both inland and coastal. Often feed in large flocks in wet grasslands.
Distribution : Throughout Australia, when suitable habitat is available. Very uncommon in the Park, but occasionally seen in paddocks adjacent to the Billys Creek flats.
