Scientific Name : Ptomaphila lacrymosa
Common Name : N/a
Description : A large brown and black beetle about 23 mm long. The Elytra are brown, broadly flattened and covered with black bumps and ridges. The antennae are club shaped, black at the base, but with the three outer segments broader than the rest and bright orange in colour.
Habitat : Usually found around decaying bodies of animals. It is believed to feed on the maggots which infest the bodies on which it is found.
Distribution : South-eastern Australia. In the park, several were found feeding on a recently dead Koala Phascolarctos cinereus, near Billys Creek and also on a dead Wombat Vombatus ursinus beside the Blue Gum Hill Track.
