Scientific Name : Pterostylis atrans Common Name : Blunt-tongue greenhood Height : 250 mm Description : Leaves, 3 to 5 on the ground on non-flowering plants only. Flowering plants to 250mm high, with no basal leaves but with 2 to 5 slender lanceolate stem clasping bracts. The flower is usually single, white with bright green stripes, often reddish brown towards the tip. The Galea is upright, and then curved sharply forward, with the dorsal Sepal extending forward in a slender point to 10mm long. The lateral Sepals are joined at first, projecting as a ledge below the hood. They are then widely separated, extending well above the hood as two slender points. The Labellum is oblong, blunt, almost concealed within the hood. Habitat : Among rocks on grassy slopes in open forests and heathy woodlands. Distribution : Queensland to South Australia and Tasmania. In the south and east of Victoria as far west as the Otways. One plant discovered in the Park on Blue Gum Hill on 2/12/00 Flowering Season : November December Family : Orchidaceae
