Scientific Name : Pseudocheirus peregrinus Common Name : Ring-tailed possum Description : A nocturnal, arboreal animal, about 300 mm in length, with a tail of a further 300 mm. Body-fur is grey to brown above, white on the under parts. Ears are prominent, rounded. The tail is slender and prehensile and the outer half is white. It builds a nest (drey) of twigs and bark in a shrub or tree. Here is a short video of 2 Ringtail Possums in a nest box on 6th September 2014. Ringtail Possum Video Habitat : A variety of habitats general containing dense shrubs. Distribution : The eastern parts of Queensland to Victoria and Tasmania, SE South Australia and SW Western Australia. Found throughout Victoria except for the north-west. Probably widespread through the Park, but currently only recorded in and close to Fosters Gully. Since 2011 Ringtail Possums have been found occupying a number of nest boxes beside the Billys Creek Track. Family : Petauridae
