Scientific Name : Petaurus breviceps Common Name : Sugar glider Description : Smallish possum, with a brushy tail, adapted to glide between trees by means of a membrane stretching from the wrists to the ankles. Body colour is blue-grey above, with black stripes on the face and blackish ears. Body length is just under 200 mm, with a tail of about the same measurement. Sugar gliders are nocturnal, but may be observed leaving their roosting holes just before dark. Here is a short video of 4 Sugar Gliders in a nest box on 6th September 2014. Sugar Glider Video Habitat : Generally in open eucalyptus woodland, especially when associated with acacia trees. Distribution : Northern and Eastern Australia, wherever suitable habitat is to be found. Status in the Park is not well-known, but there have been possible sightings close to Fosters Gully. Since 2011 Sugar Gliders have been found occupying a number of nest boxes beside the Billys Creek Track. Family : Petauridae
