Scientific Name : Blechnum fluviatile Common Name : Ray water-fern Height : 200 to 750 mm Description : Fronds are Pinnate, with two forms. The barren fronds have short broad Pinnae to 30 mm long, and more or less even width right to the base. Towards the base of the Stipe the Pinnae bases become narrowed, with a few pairs shortly stalked. Fertile fronds tend to be more upright than the barren fronds, but similar in length. The Pinnae of the fertile fronds are brownish, short, narrow and almost parallel to the Stipe. Sori are continuous on either side of the mid-vein of each Pinna. Habitat : Requires a very moist habitat and is often found on stream banks. Distribution : New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. In Victoria, found in the Otways and the Eastern half of the state. Very uncommon in the Park, where the one known plant beside Billy Creek was washed away by flood waters. A small number are known from the upper section of the Clematis Track.
