Scientific Name : Arachnorchis oenochila
Common Name : Wine-lipped spider orchid
Height : 300mm
Description : An attractive orchid, with a single green Lanceolate sparsely hairy leaf, 80mm long, from which arises a single stem, with usually a solitary flower. Except for the Labellum, the Perianth segments are up to 60mm long, each ending in a flattened club up to 20mm long. The Dorsal Sepal curves sharply forward over the Labellum. The Lamina of the Labellum is deep red, with 4 to 6 rows of club-shaped Calli, darker than the Lamina. The margins of the Labellum are fringed.
Habitat : Woodlands and open forest, often on well-drained sandy soils.
Distribution : Victoria. Photographed on Stringybark Ridge in 1988, 1989 and 2003 and identified from the photographs.
