Scientific Name : Oreixenica lathoniella
Common Name : Silver xenica
Description : A small brown butterfly, wingspan 45mm. Upper wings a mixture of brown and orange, with a single eye-spot in each wing, those on the hind wings being larger than those in the forewings, Under wings' are a mixture of pale orange, brown and silvery-white, There are two eye-spots in the hind wings. Caterpillars feed on grasses.
Habitat : Lightly forested hillsides and mountains.
Distribution : Mountains of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Recorded on Blue Gum Hill to the East of Billys Creek in April 1999.
Flying Season : March and April
Family : Nymphalidae
