Scientific Name : Geitoneura acantha
Common Name : Ringed xenica
Description : A medium sized butterfly, wingspan 55mm. Upper wings are pale orange with dark brown markings and one large eye-spot on each wing. The underwing is similarly marked, but the orange is much paler and there are two conspicuous eye-spots on the hind-wing, Caterpillars feed on various grasses, including Poa species and the kangaroo grass Themeda australis.
Habitat : Generally in open country and grasslands.
Distribution : Southern Queensland to Victoria and South Australia. Photographed in the Park near the Moran's Road entrance.
Flying Season : January and February
Family : Nymphalidae
