Scientific Name : Dispar compacta
Common Name : Dispar skipper
Description : A small skipper, wing-span 25mm. Sexes are very different. Male has upper-wing brown with white markings, female is also brown, but with cream markings on the forewings and a largish orange patch in the hind wing. Underwings are also different. The background is pale chestnut. The male has a single white stripe across its hind wing, whereas the female has a less even background, with a few small pale spots on it.
Habitat : The caterpillars feed on grasses, including Poa species, so that this butterfly is mostly found in areas of native grasses.
Distribution : Southern Queensland to Western Victoria. Recorded in the Park from Blue Gum Hill above Billy Creek.
Flying Season : January February March
Family : Hesperiidae
