Scientific Name : Acianthus pusillus
Common Name : Small mosquito orchid
Height : 150 mm
Description : Small orchid, with a single Cordate leaf. The leaf is dark green above and reddish-purple below. A solitary flower stem bears a spike of up to 10 flowers, each with a small green Cordate Bract. Flowers are small, with Sepals to 8mm long, greenish with pink to purple veins, Labellum and lateral Petals, shorter than the Sepals, but similar in colour.
Habitat : Open forest and woodlands, often on sandy soils.
Distribution : Queensland to Tasmania and South Australia. In Victoria, mainly near the South coast. Uncommon in the Park, occasional on the slopes above the East side of Fosters Gully.
Flowering Season : May and June
